Is my data secure in ShutterChef?
Yes. ShutterChef is designed to keep your personal information, photos, and preferences private and secure. Here's how your data is protected:
1. Your account data is stored securely
Your account information, preferences, and saved recipes are stored in a secure, access-controlled database (Supabase).
No one else can access your data because:
- Every record is tied to your unique user ID
- Row-Level Security (RLS) rules prevent access by anyone else
- Authentication tokens are stored securely using iOS Keychain/Android Keystore
- Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
2. Your photos are processed temporarily
When you take a photo of ingredients, it's sent to our analysis service to identify ingredients and generate recipes.
Photos are processed immediately and are not permanently stored by the analysis service. They are only used for the current recipe generation request.
3. AI processing does not train any models
Your photos and recipe preferences are never used to train AI models.
They are sent only once to the ingredient analysis service, processed for recipe generation, and then discarded. Your data is not used for machine learning or model training.
4. All communication is encrypted
Every interaction between your device, ShutterChef, and our services uses end-to-end HTTPS encryption.
This includes:
- Authentication and account data (Supabase)
- Photo uploads for ingredient analysis
- Recipe API requests
- In-app purchase transactions (RevenueCat)
5. Only you can access your data
Your account, preferences, favorite recipes, and credits are linked to your secure authentication token.
Nobody, including ShutterChef staff, can see your personal data, dietary preferences, or saved recipes unless you explicitly share them.
6. Payment information is handled securely
All in-app purchases and subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store or Google Play Store.
ShutterChef never sees or stores your payment information. RevenueCat handles subscription management securely, and all transactions are encrypted.
7. You can delete your data at any time
From inside the app, you can:
- Delete favorite recipes
- Clear your preferences and filters
- Delete your entire account (and all associated data)
Deletion is immediate and permanent. Your account data, preferences, and saved recipes will be completely removed.
8. Local data is stored securely
Sensitive data stored on your device uses platform-native secure storage:
- iOS: Keychain Services for authentication tokens
- Android: Android Keystore for secure credential storage
- No sensitive data stored in plain text
9. GDPR-friendly by design
ShutterChef is built with privacy-first infrastructure:
- EU-friendly data handling
- Minimal data collection (only what's necessary)
- No selling or sharing of personal data with third parties
- Transparent privacy policy and terms of service
- Right to access, modify, or delete your data
10. Ad privacy (for free users)
If you use the free version with ads, we use Google AdMob which respects your privacy preferences.
You can opt out of personalized advertising in your device settings. Subscribers to ShutterChef Pro do not see ads.
